What's in Your Cup?! Part 2: Arabica or Robusta Beans

There are dozens of different types of coffee beans, but when it comes to your daily cup, chances are you are enjoying either Arabica or Robusta. In this blog post, I will briefly talk about the two most popular coffee beans cultivated for drinking!

Arabica: These beans are the most popular in the world from a number of perspectives. Arabica beans are technically the first bean. They originate from Ethiopia and date back several centuries.  From a flavor profile, Arabica beans tend to have a sweeter, softer taste, with tones of sugar, fruit, and berries. Their acidity is higher, which gives a winey taste that characterizes the coffee. Arabica coffee taste very good black. If you are a fan of a cold brew however, keep in mind that the flavor of Arabica coffee actually diminishes when served cold or with creamer. It is best served hot and brewed with the pour-over or drip coffee technique.

Robusta:

Robusta is the second most popular coffee, Robusta beans originate from central and western sub-Saharan Africa. Robusta beans have a stronger, harsher taste than Arabica, and house a nutty aftertaste. They contain twice as much caffeine as Arabica beans, and are generally considered to be of inferior quality compared to Arabica. Some robustas, however, are of high quality and valued especially in espressos for their deep flavor and good crema.
